Welcome to John's page.

It's a little odd that I'm the one writing this, but that's just the way it is. I have a deep love for my family, a passion for music and graphic design and a hope that the world would find redemption and healing. I enjoy European travel with Polly, being amazed by my kids, smoking pipes and cigars (accompanied by a fine single malt when available), spending time in my studio, taking pictures, cooking, surfing eBay/craigslist, watching war and mafia movies, designing/writing and searching for ways to improve myself and the lives of my family - with God's help.

Currently I serve as the Worship Pastor for The Next Level Church (in my 15th year) and freelance as a graphic designer and music producer. I am honored to be married for 10 years to Polly and impressed that God has graced us with two beautiful children.

2-flash setup.

Well I did it. I upgraded to a Nikon D200. So far, I'm really impressed with the camera but there is a definite learning curve. I got so used to the Minolta's functions that it will take some time to fully dig into the Nikon. These are actual photos of my rig - I used 2 softboxes fired by PC sync on white background. The layout is just for fun - a way for a graphic designer to celebrate this new chapter of photography.

Just got my softbox kit and had to try a shot with it. This is a sample design concept. There's a fair amount of Photoshop work here, but not as much as it might seem. Levels, Selective Color, Brightness/Contrast, Curves (for Cross Processed look), Blur and Unsharp Mask. Added vingette.
Before adding the wood background.
Original. Got a little sun on the Habitat for Humanity build today. Selective Color can get rid of that...
I recorded some drum tracks for a good friend and thought it would be a fun setting for a couple of pics.
Self-Portrait. 3-Flash setup - Orange Gel (SB25), Purple Gel (DG500 Super). Snoot (SB24). Minolta Maxxum 5D 1/6sec, f16, ISO 100.
Minolta Maxxum 5D 1/30sec, f9, ISO 100.

Self-Portrait. 3-Flash setup (Shoot through white brolly camer left; Relflected white brolly high and behind me; Bare DG500 Super behind for rim).
I'm going to keep practicing until I get something I really like...

Self-Portrait. 3-Flash setup.
Practice is the key right? More self-portraits in my studio... I stumbled upon this lighting set up that I thought looks like it could be a shot on-stage - so I left the flash point and lens flare for effect rather than trying to mask them.

From our honeymoon in Paris, Fall 1998. I think we paid $10 for this one Poloroid from a gypsy.
It's worth every penny.
